Research and learning are fun to me. I enjoy learning and figuring stuff out. Therefore I cant get around reading books. Here is a condensed DIY camper build book list of what I found particularly useful in building my truck.
A Comprehensive Guide To Get You Started
Overlander’s Handbook
- Route Planning
- Choosing A Car
- Modifying And Converting A Car
- Life On The Road
Chris Scotts book offers so many insights and experiences. A lot of lessons learned you would not think of as a beginner. Therefore it sits at the top of my DIY Camper Build Book List!
It includes simple plans for water system as well as heating schematics. Compares different storage systems and even writes about building different vehicle like trucks with a cabin as well as modifying an SUV.
Just use this as a start before you decide anything. Thank me later.
A Well Written Track Book
Offroad Tour Pyrenäen
- Complete Guide incl. GPS Data
- Lots Of Tracks
- Extensive Writeup Of General Information
- Sorted By Level of Difficulty and Vehicle Size
- Most Data Will Be Useful No Matter Your Language
Coming up with your own routes as a beginner has turned out to be the most annoying thing so far. Right after breaking bolts trying to loosen them of course.
This book has provided me with proven routes for my shakedown/ testing trip across the pyrenees. At the same time it has been pretty easy to import the GPS Data into GAIA to plan the whole itinerary.
First Aid And Self-Reliance
Where There Is No Doctor
- Written For The Layperson
- How To Examine A Sick Person
- Common Problems
- Healing Without Medications
- Kit List Recommendations
You do not need to drive or travel far off from populated areas to find yourself out of reach of the local health care system. While it is always advisable to error on the side of caution, a trip that ended because of something that was preventable or easily manageable if you would have known before hand is always a bummer.
Do not be that person. Prepare yourself and keep this as a reference in your cars first aid kit.
