Chris Scotts book offers so many insights and experiences. A lot of lessons learned you would not think of as a beginner. Therefore it sits at the top of my DIY Camper Build Book List!
It includes simple plans for water system as well as heating schematics. Compares different storage systems and even writes about building different vehicle like trucks with a cabin as well as modifying an SUV.
Just use this as a start before you decide anything. Thank me later.

You do not need to drive or travel far off from populated areas to find yourself out of reach of the local health care system. While it is always advisable to error on the side of caution, a trip that ended because of something that was preventable or easily manageable if you would have known before hand is always a bummer.
